DHAKA: The High Court on Thursday rejected a bail petition of Sohel Rana, owner of Savar’s Rana Plaza that collapsed on April 24 last year killing more than 1,100 people.
The petition was submitted to the HC seeking bail in a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
An HC bench comprising Justice Nizamul Haq Nasim and Justice Jahangir Hossain passed the order after hearing.
Deputy attorney general Amit Talukder stood for state in the bail hearing.
The Anti-Corruption Commission submitted a charge-sheet into the Rana Plaza construction forgery case excluding the name of building owners’ son, Sohel Rana, an ACC official said.
Later, the anti-graft body included Rana’s name in the charge sheet as one of the main accused, for his alleged involvement in tampering with the construction of the collapsed building.
