Saber Chowdhury to vie for IPU president

DHAKA: Saber Hossain Chowdhury MP of Dhaka-9 Constituency will fight for the president post of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Bangladesh is one and only country who is fighting for the post from third world countries. Indonesia and Australia also are contesting for the post.

The election of the organization for the post will be held during Geneva assembly on October 12-16. 

On July 7, informing his candidacy, Saber Hossain Chowdhury submitted a letter to IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong. 

Earlier, only India was elected for the post for two times from Asia-pacific region. 

Following the matter State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said that Saber Hossain Chowdhury was nominated as a candidate for the president post of IPU. Bangladesh parliament and foreign ministry gave full support to him in this regard. 

It would be a tough election as Indonesia and Australia also will vie for the post. But we have already started campaign, he added.
