Bangladeshis advised to avoid Libya travel

DHAKA: The government of Bangladesh has advised all of its nationals not to travel to Libya until “the situation becomes stable” there, says a press release.

The Foreign Ministry issued the release on Thursday that adds: the government ‘is closely monitoring the evolving situation’ there.

The release, singed by Assistant Secretary (Media) of the ministry’s External Publicity Wing Dayamayee Chakraborty said the ministry “is in close touch with Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli.”

Till date no causality of Bangladeshis was reported as the release reads “all expatriate Bangladesh nationals in Libya are safe…… and many others have been moved to safer areas.”

The expatriates have also been advised to remain alert and avoid conflict zones.

The Government of Bangladesh, however, hoped that Libyan government would be able to contain their volatile situation with an inclusive political dialogue with all parties and groups with the support of international community.

The African country is engulfed in its deadliest fighting since the ouster of Moammar Gadhafi. Nearly 100 people have been killed, 400 others wounded, and much of the main airport has been destroyed in the recent battles that have gripped key cities.
