Indo-bangla Power Co. board meet held

DHAKA: A Board Meeting of Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company held at Kolkata for developing 1320 MW Maitree Super Thermal Power Project.

The 9th meeting of Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL), a joint venture of NTPC Limited and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), was held with Monowar Islam, Power Secretary of Bangladesh, in the chair.

This is the first board meeting being held in Kolkata. Earlier, meetings were held at Dhaka and Khulna.

Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC Limited, also attended the meeting as a member of the board.

Maitree Project is a 2 x 660 Megawatt coal based power project with super critical technology being developed at Rampal in Bagerhat district under Khulna Division.

The company, a 50:50 joint venture between NTPC and BPDB was incorporated in Bangladesh in October, 2011.

In consonance with the power sector developmental strategy of Government of Bangladesh, the board stressed the need to commission the unit of the Maitree Power project of this friendship company by December, 2018.
