DHAKA: Mirpur Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Jahidur Rahman Jahid on Saturday again denied confessing in connection with the custodial death of a scrap-cloth dealer.
Earlier, SI Jahid’s aide Nasim Sheikh, source of Bangladesh Police, admitted his guilt on Thursday in the murder.
On that day Nasim, along with Jahid, was produced before a Dhaka court to give their confessional statement.
But, the police officer denied admitting the guilt.
Sources told banglanews that Magistrate Nuru Mia sent him back to the jail after bringing SI Jahid to confess before the court.
Earlier, he was given three hours on Thursday to think about the confessional statement after grilling of a total of nine days in three phases.
On that day, he denied confessing first time though his aide Nasim admitted the guilt.
On July 16, Jahid and Nasim were arrested on charge of torturing Mahabubur Rahman Sujon to death at the Mirpur Police Station.
Police filed a case the following day, accusing eight people, including Jahid and Nasim. Of the six other accused, three are Mirpur Police Station officials and the rest, police informers.
Meanwhile, victim Sujon’s wife filed a case with a Dhaka court, accusing 10 people, including SI Jahid and Mirpur police OC Salauddin.
The court has ordered a judicial investigation into the allegations.
