MUNSHIGANJ: Due to bad weather, seven ferries stopped plying on the Mawa-Kawrakandi river route from Sunday night.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) said seven ferries were forced to anchor as they failed to ply due to heavy waves.
The suspension of the ferry services caused severe traffic jam on both sides of the river ghat, causing immense suffering to the passengers.
Amongst the total of 17 ferries, only 10 of them now are plying in the route that connects 21 northern districts with the capital.
Quoting BIWTC authorities the Sub-inspector Khandaker Khalid Hossain of Mawa river outpost said they made the decision of suspension fearing capsize of the ferries.
