20 fortune seekers missing in Bay

COX’S BAZAR: At least twenty fortune seekers went missing in the Bay of Bengal after a Malaysia-bound trawler collapsed on Monday.

The fishing trawler was found floating at the estuary of the Bay near Samity Para in the noon, said a spot account of the incident.

At that time one passenger was recovered in critical condition from the trawler, they added.

The injured was identified as Shahin, 35, son of Jahirul Haque, hailed from Adiabaskanda village under Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district.

Shahin said he and his brother were going to Malaysia along with above 30 people on board. “At one stage, the trawler collapsed in the Bay of Bengal in the morning due to heavy tide,” he added.

Shahin also told banglanews that some of 10 passengers were able to reach the coast of the sea but rest 20 might float away.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Thana Officer-in-Charge Mahfuzur Rahman said police seized the trawler as some hooligans started robbery after recovery.
