No trace of sunken launch in 21 hrs yet

FROM MAWA JETTY: The rescue team has not been managed to trace out the any sign of the launch though 21 plush hours passed since a passenger launch with 200 more on board capsized in the Padma River on Monday morning.

The list of missing people has also been increasing as the time passes. The authorities concerned have enlisted the name of 121 people so far.

Meanwhile, local people and the relatives of the passenger staged demonstration and blocked the roads early Tuesday alleging the delay and slowness in the rescue operation,

The relatives began demonstration at 3:00am. Since the dawn of the day, they began demonstrating, blocking roads, adjacent to the Mawa Jetty again, in which locals joined in.

The demonstration created a several-kilometer long traffic jam on the roads, scratching to the Mawa Jetty. Over 400 vehicles remain stranded on the roads.

Abdur Rahim, who came there in search of his sister and brother-on-law, said, “The authorities have been showing sheer negligence in the rescue operation, sign of the launch has not been identified yet.”

Infuriated Rahim raised question over the activities of the rescue team and other authorities concerned.

Local resident Maum said, “Everyone saw where the launch sank, the authorities have not been able to identify its sign yet, which is the indication of slow work.”

Earlier, bodies of two women were recovered and dozens more feared dead after Pinak-6, carrying more than 200 passengers, capsized within the 100 yards rang of Mawa Jetty in the river at 11:00am on Monday.

Of the passengers, 40 were managed to swim to the river bank while rest of the passengers remained missing.
