DHAKA: The bodies of two unidentified persons were found floating in the Meghna river at Haimchar of Chandpur district on Tuesday, a day after the launch had capsized in the Padma river near Mawa Ghat in Lauhajang upazila.
On Monday, two people died and scores of others were missing and feared drowned as the launch carrying more than 250 passengers capsized.
Confirming the matter, Mawa Marin Police camp Sub-Inspector Kahdakar Khalid Hossain told banglanews, “Heavy current washed away the bodies. Earlier on Monday, two bodies also recovered and four bodies were recovered in total.”
Haimchar Thana Officer-In-Charge Moniruzzaman said, ”One of the bodies is of female while another body swelled up, which indicates that the man might have been dead 3 or 4 days earlier.”
Louhajanj Thana OC Tofazzel Hossin told banglanews, “It has not been confirmed yet whether the bodies are from the sunken launch, and we are looking into the matter.”
Meanwhile, authorities concerned have enlisted the name of 121 people who were missing in the capsize, so far.
Earlier, Pinak-6 with 200 more people on board sank within the 100 yards rang of Mawa Jetty in the river at 11:00am on Monday.
Of the passengers, about 40 were managed to swim to the river bank while rest of the passengers remained missing.
