DHAKA: A verbal plea was placed before the High Court on Tuesday seeking urgent directives over not to carry excessive passengers on board of launch during Eid.
Barrister Manoj Kumar Bhowmik made the plea with a vacation bench of the HC comprising Justice Naima Hayder and Justice M Akram Hossain Chowdhury on Tuesday morning.
Manoj also submitted reports published in different national dailies.
The bench did not issue any suo-moto rule asking the petitioner to go to the regular bench of the HC.
Manoj told banglanews: “Thousands of people go home in the southern region during Eid, they will be back to Dhaka; as a result, they may fall victim of the incident like the Pinak-6 capsize in Padma River.”
“For this reason, I expect a sou-moto rule, but the court asked to go to the regular bench,” he added.
On Monday, Pinak-6 with over 300 people on board sank within the 100 yards rang of Mawa Jetty in the river at 11:00am.
Of the passengers, about 100 were rescued while rest of the passengers remained missing.
