DHAKA: Awami League paid rich tributes to ‘Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, at her grave at Banani in the city on the occasion of her 84th birth anniversary.
AL leaders and activists placing floral wreath there around 8:30am, followed by holding a milad and doa mahfil at Banani Graveyard Mosque for her eternal salvation.
AL presidium member Advocate Sahara Khatun, joint secretary Mahabubul Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, organizing secretary Khalid Mahmud Chudhury, publicity and publication secretary Hasan Mahmud, office secretary Abdus Salam Golap, labor affairs secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, among others, were present there.
Later, leaders and activist of AL’s associate bodies paid homage to Fazilatunnesa.
Born in 1930 at Tungipara village in Gopalganj on the day, Fazilatunnesa lost her father Sheikh Zahurul Haque at the age of three and mother Hosne Ara Begum at five. She was married to her cousin Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
During the imprisonment of Bangabandhu, she assisted the political leaders by providing suggestions to strengthen the nation’s struggle for independence.
Fazilatunnesa was martyred on August 15 in 1975 along with most of her family members.
