DHAKA: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved five projects, including the Matarbari coal-run power plant project, involving Tk 37,339 crore.

The approval came from a regular ECNEC meeting at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in city on Tuesday morning with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Of the total cost of Tk 35,984 crore of the coal-run power plant project, JICA will provide Tk 28,939 crore, government will give 4,926 crore and the institution will provide Tk 2,118 crore.

Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He also said production capability of the Ultrasuper Critical Power Plant at Matarbari in Cox’s Bazar will be 1200MW.

The power plant will depend on imported coals which will cost Tk 10,255.50 per ton.

Sea surface water will be used for cooling the power plant and steam generation.

Coal Power Generation Company Limited (CPGCL) has been implementing the project initiated by fuel and mineral resources and the power divisions.
