President,PM pay tribute to Bangabandhu

DHAKA: President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Friday morning on the occasion of the 39th martyrdom anniversary of the great leader and the National Mourning Day.

Hamid placed floral wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portrait at Dhamondi 32 Avenue in the city at 6:30am, followed by placing wreaths by Hasina there.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker and chief justice also paid tribute to Bangabandhu.

Members of the Cabinet accompanied the president and the premier there.

Later, Hasina placed wreaths at her mother, three brothers, two sister-in-law, uncle and other’s grave in Banani graveyard of the city at 7:15am, stood a solemn silence awhile, offered fateha and attended the dua mahfil there.

Awami League leaders including general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofael Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupa, Mohammad Nasim, Abdul Latif Siddiuie, Begum Motia Chudhury, and Mahabubul Alam Hanif, among others, accompanied the premier there.
