Journo, rhymester Obaidul Gani passed away

DHAKA: Daily Manobkantha feature editor and prominent rhymester Obaidul Gani Chandan passed away at a city hospital on Saturday morning. 

He was 41.

Chandan, who is more popular for his rhyme, breathed his last at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

His wife Rubina told banglanews, “Chandan has been suffering from respiratory problems for several days; he was hospitalized several months ago. Back from hospital, he fell sick again these days.”

Chandan’s former colleague Dipankar Goutam told banglanews, “He (Chandan) stayed at friend’s house on Friday night, where he suffered a cardiac arrest during Saturday dawn.”

He was rushed to the hospital where on-duty doctor pronounced him dead.

His body has been taken to the office of Daily Manobkantha in the city’s Gulshan area.

Prior to joining Manobkantha, he had worked for private satellite channel Bangla Vision, Boishakhi TV and Independent TV.

He wrote about 30 plays, composed jingles for film, drama and television commercials regularly. He won Agrani Bank Shishu Shahitto Award for two times.  

Chandan was survived by wife and a son.
