DHAKA: Customs official detained a youth with 36 lakhs foreign currencies at Hazrat Sahjalal International Airport early Sunday.

The detainee was identified as Shushankar Mallick, 27, resident of Nawabganj of Dhaka district.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, director of Customs Intelligence Directorate Moinul Khan said “We detained Shushankar observing his suspicious movements, checked his bag and body, and found a total of 36 lakhs Saudi Riyal, UAE Dirham, Malaysian Ringgit, and Singaporean currency from his shoes and luggage.

He was to take flight no. MH 197 to land Malaysia.”

However the youth said in interrogation that he was carrying the currencies as was going to buy gold.
