RANGPUR: Around 2,000 people have been marooned as incessant rains and the onrush of water from upstream in the Teesta River over the last four days flooded several unions of the district.
Rangpur Water Development sources said the water level is raising and dams were flashed away in various areas due to pressure of water.
Some 5,000 people of Nohali union, 3,000 of Kolkonda union, 2,000 of Laxmitari union, 3,000 of Gangachhara Sadar union, 7,000 of Gojghanta and Morneya unions have been marooned in the flood water.
Besides, corn fields, ponds have been flooded away and roads were submerged in the various areas of the district.
Rangpur Water Development Deputy Assistant Engineer Tobibur Rahman said the dams were not repaired due to lack of allocation of fund.
Gangachhara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tahidul Islam said water level is decreasing in some points of the Tessta River.
