Acupuncture to reduce medico tourism

DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Benazir Ahmed on Sunday put question if the acupuncture treatment could be possible in our country why the Bangladeshis spend at least Tk 200 crore per year for medico tourism.

 

“The money, which has been being spent for taking treatment in foreign countries, is called the cost of medico tourism,” he said.

 

The metropolitan police chief made the remarks while addressing  a open discussion on ‘Natural Medical Procedures to Build Crime Free Society’ organized by DMP and Society for Bangaz Swachikitsha Parishad at Bangladesh Police Auditorium in the city.

 

DMP commissioner said at least 80 percent of total tourists went to India, Singapore and Thailand for treatment purpose. 

 

So, he suggested them to take treatment in Bangladesh as at least 3000 diseases are well taking acupuncture therapy according to the doctors who works for acupuncture therapy.

 

He added: “We started to give treatment to drug addicts in some police stations as crimes related to illness. If anybody patronize for it, this treatment would be given in all thanas.” 

 

Society for Bangaz Swachikitsha Parishad Adviser Saidur Rahman presided over the program where ICT prosecutor Barrister Turin Afroz was present as chief guest.
