30 Malaysia-bound held in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR: Coast Guard personnel detained 30 people, who were trying to cross the sea to enter into Malaysia illegally, from the estuary of Banhkhali River adjacent to the seaside town on Wednesday morning.

The coast guard also seized a trawler there.

Nuniarchara Coast Guard Station In-Charge Shahidul Islam told banglanews, “On secret information, Coast Guard conducted the operation and nabbed those from the estuary.”

“They all hailed from Habiganj, Tangail and Cox’s Bazar districts,” Shaidul said adding, “The detainees will be handed over to the Sadar Thana police for returning them to their guardians.”

Large numbers of people try to crossing the sea to enter into Malaysia illegally via Cox’s Bazar route every year.

On August 4, a man was killed after a trawler, carrying Malaysia-bound people, fell into accident.
