DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed Robi Ullah Robi, News Editor of the Dainik Inquilab, on a five-day remand in an information technology case.
Metropolitan Magistrate SM Ashiqur Rahman passed the remand order after holding a hearing in the afternoon.
Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Azizur Rahman produced Robi before the court with a 10-day remand plea in a case filed under ICT Act.
Court Thana GRO Sheikh Rakibur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Wari Thana police sources said a case was filed with the thana against Robi and four others under the ICT Act on August 18 for publishing a report titled ‘undisputed dominance of a police official abusing the name of Prime Minister’ on that day.
AIG of Police Pralaya Kumar Zoarder filed the lawsuit bringing allegation of hurting religious beliefs, for trying to bring disorder in administration and violation of ICT Act.
Dainik Inquilab’s publisher and editor, news editor, chief correspondent and the concerned reported were made accused of the lawsuit.
On Monday night (August 18), DB police nabbed Robi Ullah Robi from the RK Mission Road office of the national daily.
