DHAKA: A Chhatra League activist of Dhaka University (DU) unit was temporarily expelled by the DU authorities Saturday for assaulting a journalist on July 10.

The expelled student is Sohel Hossain, a fourth year student of Management department and activist of Bangabandhu Hall unit BCL.

DU proctor Dr. Saiful Islam told banglanews24.com.bd, “Sohel has been expelled for one year for violating University discipline. The authorities have taken the decision based on the recommendations of the Vice-chancellor for maintaining University discipline.”
 
Sohel and his friend Jahid beat up Mehedi Hasan, the DU correspondent of online newspaper “Shirsha News” over a dispute on July 10.

Mehedi filed a case with Shabagh police station on the same night accusing Sohel and Jahid of assaulting him.

DU unit BCL expelled Sohel from the party on July 11 while police arrested Jahid from TSC on the same day.
