COX’S BAZAR: A pregnant housewife was shot dead by robbers in Chakaria upazila of the district early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Sharmin Akhter Nilufa, 26, wife of one Sirajul Islam, resident of Rangmahal area of Dulahajra union of the upazila.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Thana Probhash Chandra Dhar told banglanews that a gang of 20 to 25 robbers, in disguise of police, asked Sirajul Islam Sawdagar’s family members to open the main entrance of their house around 4:00am.

The robbers shot the gate when the family refused to open the gate, leaving Nilufa dead on the spot.

Locals added, robbers entered the house forcibly and beat Sirajul; then they looted about seven Bhories gold ornaments, Tk 12,000 and four mobile phone sets.

On information, police rushed to the spot and detained a dacoit Ayatullah who admitted his involvement with the robbery, OC added.

Police sent Nilufa’s body to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
