JOYPURHAT: An on-duty police constable was killed and an assistant sub-inspector critically injured in road accident in Haranda area of Panchbibi upazila on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Akhtaruzzaman, hailed from Keshabpur village of Birampur upazila of Dinajpur.

Sources said a shallow engine-run auto rickshaw knocked the motorcycle riding by Akhtaruzzaman on Panchbibi-Kamdia road in the area at noon when he was going to Shalaipur village for duty purpose.

Locals rushed them to the Bogra Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital around 3:00 pm where the attending doctors declared the constable dead.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Officer-in-Charge Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal of Panchbibi Thana said “after the autopsy his Namaz-e-Janaja would be held in Joypurhat Police line premises.”

Later, the body would be handed over to his relatives, he added.
