DHAKA: In the wake of deteriorating law and order, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is going to start special drives across the capital from Saturday night.
Some high officials of police said that the special drive will be conducted to detain criminals as killing and mugging incidents has increased alarmingly recently.
DMP sources said that the decision of lunching drives was taken at a DMP’s monthly meeting on city crime review at its headquarters on August 5.
Confirming the matter, DMP Joint Commissioner (Crime) Mir Rezaul Alam told banglanews that following the decision, the drive will be started on Saturday night. All police stations of DMP will take part in the drive.
Earlier, the city police conduct drives from August 8 to August 11 in the Mirpur, Ramna and Mothijheel zones.
According to the data of last seven months, some 19 cases were filed with city’s police stations related to mugging and robbing in January and in February which rose to 20. A total of 26 cases were logged in March while 31 in July.
Following the recent crime incidents, city police sat on a meeting where DMP commissioner Benazir Ahmed and other officials joined.
Officer-in-Charge of various police stations including Ramna, Khilgaon, Rampura, Pallabi said that the police forces are ready to conduct the special drive.
