SHERPUR: Increasing water level in Brahmaputra River is continuing due to upstream flash flood along with downpour in the district.
People in char-land areas are leaving their homesteads behind and taking shelter in safer places.
Over 50 houses in Kulurchar Beparipara area in Char Pakkhimari union of Sadar upazila were eroded by the river Brahmaputra due to its increased water level over past three days.
Sources from the eroded area said upstream flash flood hit Kulurchar Beparipara village and created heavy erosion.
Residents of the areas are escaping from the erosion, said a competent source in the incident.
The villagers said they have yet to get any assistance from neither government nor non-government organizations.
All of around 1,000 of the village will be eroded if initiative is immediately not taken, they lamented.
Sherpur Water Development Board deputy divisional engineer Hasanuzzaman told banglanews that water level in Sherup Ferry-ghat point on river Brahmapurta increased 17-centimeter from Friday last.
People who are living in the low-land areas on the bank of the river had been water-logged, he added.
According to the reports, river erosion has been continuing in Kilurchar areas.
