DHAKA: August 24 is another shameful day as it is recalling the history of Yeasmin’s murder, 19 years ago.
On this day of 1995, Yeasmin, a 15-year old girl was killed after being gang-raped by a police team in Dinajpur.
Policemen, who found Yeasmin waiting in Doshmile for a bus to go to Dinajpur arriving from Dhaka, took her their vehicle to lift there.
Finally they left Yeasmin dead five kilometers away from the town after gang-rape at Adibasi Primary School.
However, after flashing the incident, Dinajpur people took to the streets in protest against the brutality where police made viciousness by opening fire on them.
Police killed seven persons at the day next including Samu, Siraj and Quader from Dinajpur.
Since then, the Day is being observed as Women Repression Prevention Day (Widely known as Yeasmin Dibos).
Moreover, authorities hanged three involved policemen Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mainul Islam, Constable Abdus Sattar and Pickup Van Driver Amrit Lal till death of this incident following a court order on August 31 in 2007 in this regard.
Different socio-cultural organizations including Mahila Parishad arrange elaborate programs every year to mark the day.
