2 killed in Jamalpur clash

JAMALPUR: Two people were killed and over others 100 injured in a clash between residents of two villages at Melandah upazila of the district on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Murad, 30, resident of Tupkarchar village in the upazila and Harun, 25 of Khanpara area of Shahjadpur of the same upazila.

Local sources said the clash took place around 11:00am and continued for a long time in phases, said a spot account of the incident.

The sources said the residents of Tupkarchar and Shahjadpur villages locked into the clash in the morning centering a long dispute over a using road.

The villagers of Shahjadpur beat some people of Tupkarchar this morning while they were going through the road, they added.

Later, the people of Tupkarchar attacked the opponents over the feud.

At one stage of the feud, the people of villages locked into fierce a clash with lethal weapons, leaving Murad and Harun dead on the spot and over 100 others injured.

Officer-in-Charge of Melandah Thana Nasimul Haque said the injured are now undergoing treatment at Melandah Upazila Health Complex and Jamalpur General Hospital.

The law enforcers were deployed in area to avert further unwanted situation.
