DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) has decided that it will also give national ID cards through online with a view to reaching their service to people’s door.

Before implementing the decision, they will hold meeting with experts of Dhaka University, BUET, Computer Council, BASIS and other organizations regarding software.

Sources said now people face a long procedure for getting the ID cards. They also face many obstacles for ID information corrections.

So, the election commission took the decision to remove the obstacles on the process. EC’s National Identity Department (NID) will give the service through online.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin made the disclosure in a formal meeting with other commissioners on Sunday.

An EC official said that they, in the meeting, put importance on the correction of information given in the national ID cards.
