Surma water over 93cm of danger line

SUNAMGANJ: The district town is facing flood risk as the surging water of Surma River is flowing over 93 centimeters of the danger line.

Several areas--Kazir Point, Shologhar Point, Ukilpara, Nabinagar, Teghria, North Arpin Nagar and Barapara--have already went under water.

Sunamganj Water Development Board (WDB) sources said the current water flow is recorded 9.18 meter where the flow is supposed to be within 8.25 meter.

Executive Engineer of Sunamganj WDB Sayeed Ahmed said they have recorded 135 millimeter rainfall in the district in last 24-hour.

Mentioning the weather forecast, he further said heavy rainfall would continue in the district from Sunday to Thursday of the week.

District flood control office said the rise of the water level in Haor areas is still within limit but some 20 villages of three upazilas became flooded.

The government has already given Tk 500,000 for the flood affected people.

Some 7,205 hectares of cultivable land also went under flood water.
