CHANDPUR: An old man has died after a vessel carrying cargo capsizes in the Meghna river in Haimchar area of the district on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Ershad Mistri, 70, hailed from Chittagong’s Mirsharai.

Witnesses told banglanews that a vessel, carrying salt, headed to Narayanganj via Chandpur from Kutubdia, capsized at Telir Mor point in the river around 11:00am.

Though, all the 10 crew of that cargo, MV Osman, were rescued, but, one of them died after admitted to the Haimchar upazila health complex.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Haimchar Thana Maniruzzaman said that rescuers are trying to salvage the vessel.
