DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will go to Italy to join biannual summit of Asia-Europe Intercontinental Forum (ASEM) in October.

A competent source from the foreign affairs ministry confirmed the matter on Tuesday.

The two-day summit will be held in the Italian city of Milan from October 16.

The date of the PM’s visit has not been fixed yet, the source added.

The ministry also said that Sheikh Hasina is likely to meet the prime minister and other senior leaders of Italy.

Premiers of some 49 countries of European and Asian countries are scheduled to join the ASEM summit, organized in every two years.

Besides, European Union (EU), European Commission (EC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) secretariat are also member of ASEM.

ASEM started its journey at Bangkok in Thailand in 1996.

The organization is promised to face the political, economic, social, cultural and educational challenges in Asia and Europe.
