DHAKA: Convicted war criminal Abdul Alim, who had been in the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) since October 9 past year, died on Saturday.
He was 84.
Alim breathed his last at 1:15pm at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
His namaz-e-janaja will be held after Maghrib prayer at Banani Masjid in city. He will be buried his hometown in Joypurhat.
The convicted war criminal, who had been suffering from lung cancer, was shifted at Incentive Care Unit (ICU) of the BSMMU Tuesday evening
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 sentenced the former BNP minister to imprisonment unto death for committing genocide and other crimes against humanity during the country’s war of independence in 1971.
He was convicted of 17 charges; nine of them were proved without any doubt.
A three-member ICT-2 team, with Justice Obaidul Hasan as chairman, sentenced Alim to imprisonment upto death rather than the capital punishment due to his physical and psychological inabilities.
