Zero tolerance to food adulteration

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered the authorities concerned to show zero tolerance to food adulteration.

She also ordered them to keep the use of formalin and any harmful chemicals in food items in close surveillance.

A letter from Prime Minister Office (PMO), in this regard, reached to the health department of both Dhaka north and south city corporations on Tuesday.

A DCC (south) health official, wishing anonymity, confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said the prime minister has ordered them to be iron-handed in preventing food adulteration.

Besides, she has told them to show zero tolerance to the presence of formalin and other harmful chemicals in food.

The DCC official further said that regarding the use of formalin, the letter stated that they have to take strong measures in manufacturing level if they find any use of formalin in food stuff.

They are asked not to permit any presence of formalin whether it is in so-called tolerable or intolerable level, he added.

He further said that the DCC health departments are working to find out the strategy of action. They are also taking preparation to follow the instruction of the premier.
