DHAKA: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) revealed that no corruption had been found in the Padma bridge project.
The ACC also claimed that the World Bank (WB) deliberately did the allegation.
The ant-graft body said while briefing the reporters at ACC office in city’s Segunbagicha area on Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier, on December 17, ACC filed a corruption case in Padma bridge project against seven officials, including three officials from Canadian company SNC-Lavalin.
Some other accused in the case are Roads and Highways Division executive engineer Riaz Ahmed Jaber, Engineer and Planning Consulted Limited DMD Muhammad Mostafa, SNC-Lavalin former director Muhammad Ismail.
Though the case was not filed against former communications minister Syed Abul Hossain and former state minister for foreign affairs ministry Abul Hasan Chowdhury but they were under investigations.
After the investigations, seven accused including Abul Hossain and Abul Hasan got release from the case.
ACC chairman M Badiuzzaman said in the briefing that they investigated the case in two phases over both contractor and consultant appointments.
“But we did not find any prove of corruption regarding the matter”, he added.
The ACC chairman also said they met the World Bank team. But they were not able to give evidences which could help investigation.
Regarding the arrest of former bridge secretary, he said ACC can arrest anyone for investigation.
Replying to a query of the reporters that those who were accused in the case being socially demeaned, Badiuzzaman said “We filed first information report (FIR) for the inquiry”.
The probe reports had been submitted in the commission. None was convicted in the report. Later, it will be filed in court after submission.
