LAXMIPUR: A fisherman was killed and two others sustained injuries after a boat capsized into the Meghna River in Kamalnagar of the district early Saturday.

The deceased was identified Abdul Malek, 45, hailed from Charkalkini village.

Sources said that fishermen were catching fish in Kalkini area of the Meghna River. Then the boat, carrying three fishermen, capsized after being hit by a goods-laden cargo ship, leaving a fisherman dead on the spot and two others injured.

Confirming the matter, Charkalkini Union Parisad Chairman Master Saif Ulla told banglanews after the incident the ship fled the spot.
