DHAKA: A total of 33 workers, who were victims of cheating in Sudan, arrived in Bangladesh on Saturday morning.

They went there for job with the help of manpower recruiting agency Al-Purbasha Enterprise.

The workers, in two groups, landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city by two separate flights of Air Arabia at 9:00am and 10:40am.

Mamun, a victim worker, told, the recruiting agency told us that we would be given job of Tk 40,000 a month there, and they took Tk 2 lakh each from us in return.

Upon Arrival at Sudan, we were given the job at textile mills with a monthly salary of Tk 8,000 to 9,000, he added.

Mamum went on saying, the agency men beat us when we protested the cheating; later we informed our guardians here in Bangladesh, and then they contacted to the Obibasi Oikya Forum.

Forum convener Alamin Nayon brought the matter to the Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry’s attention. Later, the ministry ordered the agency either to meet the worker’s demand or to return them to the country.

The agency brought us back home today (Saturday) with the pressure from the ministry, Mamum added.
