DHAKA: Confusion aroused as Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman and Secretary Kazi Akhter Hossain gave different information about literacy rate of the country.

Both of them were present at a press briefing at secretariat in the city on Sunday.

Minister Mostafizur Rahman said, “Some 65 percent people of age group 15-65 are literate.” 

On the other hand, Secretary Akhter Hossain said, “The rate is about 70 percent.”

When asked about the difference, supporting the secretary, the minister said, “65 and 70 are close enough.”

Additional secretary Sirajul Haque Khan, Genedro Kumar Biswas and other officials of the ministry were among others present at the press conference.
