Transport strike begins in Rangpur divn

RANGPUR: The nonstop transport strike has begun in Rangpur division Wednesday morning, bringing road communications on at least 120 routes of eight districts of the division with other parts of the country to a halt.

The transport workers in the division began their indefinite strike at 6.00 am in protest against the attack on union General Secretary Abdul Majid and vandalism at their office.

Many passengers were seen standing at bus stands as the movement of all types of vehicles halted due to strike, causing immense suffering to them.

Our strike will continue until the attackers are arrested and we receive damages for the torched vehicles, the strikers said.

The workers' union and the attackers locked into clash on Sunday night that halted traffic on Rangpur-Bogra Highway for an hour.

During the clash numbers of motorcycles were damaged and a car was torched and 30 people sustained injuries.
