DHAKA: UNESCO will recognize the heritage sites of Bangladesh, assured the organization’s director general Irina Bokova on Monday.
She made the assertion during a courtesy call on cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor at his secretariat office in city.
Irina Bokova, however, also said that UNESCO would stay beside Bangladesh in future.
During the meeting, she termed Bangladesh as a potential country with rich natural and cultural heritages.
UNESCO director general assured cultural affairs minister of extending her cooperation to recognize the heritage sites of Bangladesh.
Earlier, the cultural minister mentioned Bangladesh’s list of heritage sites to UNESCO for their inclusion into the UN body’s Tangible and Intangible Cultural Heritage categories.
He also sought her cooperation in this regard.
Cultural affairs secretary Dr Ranajit Kumar Biswas, among others, attended the meeting.
