Firoza Begum to be buried at Banani graveyard

DHAKA: Nazrul Sangeet legend Firoza Begum, who died at a city’s hospital on Tuesday, will be laid to rest at the city’s Banani graveyard after Asr prayers on Wednesday.

The body was taken to her residence in city’s Indira Road area in the morning. Later, she will be kept at Central Shaheed Minar from 2:00pm to 3:30pm where people from all walks of life will pay tributes to her.

Firoza’s niece Towfiq confirmed the matter to banglanews.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina expressed their condolence and deep shock over the death of Firoza.

Firoza breathed her at Apollo Hospitals in the capital on Tuesday night at the age of 84. She suffered from complications of heart, lungs and kidneys.

Born on July 28, 1930 in Faridpur, she began her career in 1940s. In 1942, she recorded her first Islamic song by a Gramophone record company. 

Began living in Kolkata from 1954, Firoza married to Kamal Dasgupta, a singer, composer and lyricist, in 1956, and moved to Dhaka in 1967.

Her sons Hamin Ahmed and Shafin Ahmed are also musicians. They are currently the members of rock band Miles.
