Separate adjudication for children, teens, he says
 
DHAKA: Dispelling controversies, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed Tuesday said High Court justices have been appointed judges of the International Crimes Tribunal abiding by the constitution.

“The appointments would enhance the standard of judgment,” said the minister while addressing a workshop on `Child Law Reform` at the CIRDAP auditorium, dismissing the contentions.

The workshop was organized jointly by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry and UNICEF to discuss the issues of upgrading the law for properly dealing with delinquencies and rectification of underage offenders.

Law Minister Shafique also said the Tribunal would take initiatives to arrest other top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, if necessary, to stand trial in the tribunal for the wartime crimes committed in 1971.

“There may remain any conflicting clause in the constitution and that`s why the initiative has been taken to amend it,” he said about the step taken for constitutional amendment.

On child-teenage crime, he informed that the government is going to introduce a separate adjudication system for children`s crime.

The jurist-turned justice minister opined that criminal tendency was on the rise among delinquent children for detaining them in jail.

"Separate steps will be taken to hold such children and teens," he said.
