DHAKA: BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia alleged that the government is planning to stay in power for an indefinite period by passing Judges impeachment act.

He came up with the allegation in a program organized by Shadhinota Forum to commemorate the 7th jail release day of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and the Senior Vice Chairman of the party Tarique Rahman at National Press Club on Friday.

Rafiqul Islam also said, “BNP founder Ziaur Rahman cancelled Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League (BAKSAL) and provided opportunity to Sheikh Hasina to reform Awami League. This is why she has become prime minister now.”

Recalling the January 11, 2007 (popularly known as 1/11) he also said that Sheikh Hasina left the country at that moment of crisis but BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia did not.

“Khaleda Zia did not compromise with any unfairness,” he added.

Rafiqul Islam also termed Khaleda Zia as the introducer of parliamentary democracy in country. Hence she did not take part in the January 5 election.

President of Shadhinota Forum Abu Naser M Rahmatullah presided over the program.
