DHAKA: Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed praised the role of working women saying that they have made Bangladesh second largest garments (RMG) exporting country.
The chief of country’s top business organization came up with the appreciation at a roundtable meeting titled ‘Political stability for Economic Development’ organized by well-circulated Bangla daily Bangladesh Pratidin at East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL) conference room in Bashunhdara Residential Area in city on Saturday.
Mentioning the role of working women in country’s garment sector, the FBCCI chief said that 75 percent of workers in this sector are women.
This is also an example of women empowering. The wage of workers has increased from Tk 900 to Tk 5,300.
He further said, “These girls are definitely looking pretty. Their fingers are beautiful. They can swiftly sew garments using machines of any kind. Women of many other countries, especially in Africa cannot sew aptly because of their coarse fingers.”
“Our girls have made Bangladesh second largest RMG exporter in the world,” he commented.
He added: “Due to political crisis we lack investment,” he said adding, “We should stop the practice of hartal.”
Noted politicians, diplomats, security experts, among others, attended the event, moderated by Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Noem Nizam.
