DHAKA: The condition of ailing former BNP secretary general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan deteriorated further on Tuesday which physicians termed “very critical”.

Bhuiyan’s personal physicians are in doubt about his recovery.

“Possibility of his recovery is very thin as his condition deteriorated last night,” said Bhuiyan’s personal physician Dr Bazlul Gani Bhuiyan at a briefing at Square Hospital Tuesday.

He said the condition of Bhuiyan turned critical at around 11 pm on Monday. His hands and legs became cold, heart was not receiving oxygen while blood pressure dropped, said Dr Gani.

“Physicians tried hard to bring his blood pressure to normal. Now he remains unchanged in a critical condition,” he said.

Earlier, 100 percent oxygen could get in his blood by providing 70 percent oxygen, but now, his blood shows less than 80 percent oxygen even after providing 100 percent oxygen.

Moreover, cancer has spread over the left side of his lungs, the physician said.

As soon as the news spread on Monday night, BNP Vice chairman and Dhaka City Mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka rushed to the hospital at around 1 am Tuesday.

Earlier on Sunday, a successful surgical operation was done on the windpipe of former BNP secretary-general Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan for healing his breathing problems.

The senior politician is on life-support system due to his inability to breathe normally. He has been undergoing treatment at the Square Hospital since he returned from Singapore.

Earlier, the former local government minister flew to Singapore on May 31 for treatment. He had undergone treatment at Singapore National University Hospital. He was given chemotherapy eight times there, said his family members.
