DHAKA: The slum dwellers hurled brickbats aiming Railway authorities and Railway Thana police, the evictors of illegal establishments adjacent to the rail lines from Malibagh to Moghbazar areas in city on Sunday.
Kamlapur Thana Sub-Inspector Rafiqul Islam said the slum dwellers thought that the drive was conducted to evict the slums.
Later, they had a talk with them and assured them that the drive is to evict the illegal shops and settlements in the rail line areas, he added.
Railway authorities and Railway Thana police jointly conducted the drives that started from 9:00am and continued till noon.
round 1,000 illegal shops and settlements were evicted in the third day of the drive.
Dhaka Railway Thana Police Officer-in-Charge Abdul Mazid confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Earlier on Thursday morning, four people were killed and five others injured in Karwan Bazar rail crossing area in city.
Later, following the incident the eviction drive started on Friday.
