DHAKA: The defense lawyers are cross examining Jobeda Khatun, mother of Joj Miah who is accused in 21 August grenade attack cases.

Speedy Tribunal-1 justice M Shahed Nur Uddin accepted the questioning in front of Dhaka Central Jail at 11:05 Monday.

Public prosecutor Akram Uddin Shaymal confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Earlier on September 8, Jobeda gave statement but she was not cross-examined due to time shortage.

Joj Miah and his sister Khorsheda Akhter were present in the court. Their statements could be recognized after Jobeda’s cross examination.

On 2005, ‘Joj Miah drama’ was created arresting him on accusation of August 21 grenade attack.

Later on 2008, the members of CID submitted the charge sheet removing Joj Miah’s name and he was released on 2009.

Special Superintendent of police of CID later submitted a Supplementary charge sheet accusing 52 people. Here,  Joj Miah’s mother and sister were made witnesses.

On August 21, 2004, a grisly grenade attack on an Awami League rally left 24 people, including Ivy Rahman, wife of late President Zillur Rahman, dead and over 300 others injured.

Awami League president Sheikh Hasina survived the attack.

Following the incident, Motijheel police filed the two cases — one for the killing and the other under the Explosive Act.
