DHAKA: The mobile-phone operators have to provide one percent money as development surcharge on their income to the government which will be spent on education and health sector.

The decision came from a regular meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Secretariat office in capital on Monday.

After the meeting, the cabinet secretary Muhammad Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan was briefing the journalists.

He also said the mobile-phone users use average Tk 200 per month. According to this, the operators have to pay Tk 2 per month as surcharge.

From the surcharge the government will get additional Tk 140 crore as revenue which will be spent in education and health sectors, the secretary added.
