DHAKA: A visiting Danish energy expert suggested that Bangladesh should go for renewable energy sources to tackle existing power shortage in the country.

Prof Arne Remmen, a faculty of Planning and Development of Alborg University in Denmark also said that the Danish government might extend support if Bangladesh wishes to go for renewable.

He was addressing an experience sharing programme on ‘Climate Change and Usages of Power’ at Dhaka Reporters Unity organized by Forum for Energy Reporters Bangladesh (FERB) in the city.

Arne said Bangladesh could use Danish experiences in the renewable energy as it generates 30 percent of energy from renewable sources.

“We are now planning to generate 50 percent of total energy from renewable sources by 2020."

Arne said energy resources were decreasing day by day and it will continue to shrink in the future for climate change impact.

As a result, the countries will have to increase the use of renewable energy sources.

Addressing the programme, Shahidul Islam Khan, a BUET Professor, said wind power would be appropriate for Bangladesh compared to solar energy, but it lacks adequate information.

Shahin Chowdhury, Executive Director of FERB, conducted the programme.
