NEW YORK: Bangladesh Permanent Mission celebrated the 40th anniversary of achieving UN membership in New York on Wednesday evening.
Dr AK Abdul Momen, Bangladesh Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN in New York, cut a cake to mark the day where diplomats and officers of the mission were present.
On September 17, 1974 Bangladesh earned membership of the United Nations as an independent and sovereign state.
In his speech Abdul Momen said, after independence, Bangabandhu took the diplomatic initiative to achieve membership of the United Nations (UN) as well as development of the war-torn country. As a result, in only two and a half years Bangladesh joined the United Nations as its 136th member which is a memorable event in the history of independent Bangladesh.
