Padma Bridge to be completed within 2018

GOPALGANJ: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday categorically said the construction work of much-talked-about Padma Bridge will be completed within 2018.

“Vested quarters conspired against the construction work, blotted us with the allegation of corruption; I protested and challenged them all; finally, we have started the construction work with our own money,” the premier said.

Hasina made the observations in a rally of noted persons, after inaugurating several development works in the upazila, at Bangabandhu Memorial Complex at noon.

She further said, “We already have taken various projects for the development of southern part of the country which was relatively disregarded. We are conducting development works in the southern part after assuming the power.”

“We have provided electricity connections to 12,000 families in Kotalipara and Tungipara and will provide electricity to every house of the country,” she added.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also criticised BNP as a corrupted party and said, “They have created fundamentalism in the country.”

Earlier in the day, Sheikh Hasina inaugurated power connections to 12,000 families, Sonali Bank Tunigpara branch building, 30KW solar panel of the upazila building and several newly made bridges in the upazila of the district.

Earlier, the premier left Dhaka at 10:00am for Tungipara by a helicopter and reached at 10:25am.

She paid her homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at his grave, attended a special Munajat here.

Later, she inaugurated the development works prior to the rally of noted persons at public plaza of Bangabandhu Memorial Complex in Tungipara.
