DHAKA: Banned Islamic outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) are looking to target the motorcade of Very Very Important Persons (VVIP) in a bid to attract the attention of world media.
They were working with the view to revitalize their party members and to attract the favour of Syrian IS extremists.
They also were working to open units at schools, colleges and universities and were planning to snatch extremists like the Mymensingh incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman made the disclosures in a press briefing at DMP Media Center.
DMP organized the briefing after the Detective Branch officials early Friday detained seven people, including Tasnim, the acting JMB chief.
Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam, Deputy-Police Commissioner (North) Nazmul ALam, Deputy-Police Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman, Additional Deputy-Police Commissioner Abdul Ahad and Assistant Police Commissioner Minhajul Islam, among others, were present in the briefing.
